It's Live!

Writer: Donna GoodacreDonna Goodacre

Finally last week 'Greenstone and Violins' Ebook, paperback and hardcover books were uploaded onto Amazon. A week later I have 20 author copies in my hot little hands, all ready for the 'Ages of Pages' book fair in Hamilton next month. Not that I think I'll sell twenty, but you never know. So... you can buy through Amazon or through my website, which is being updated. Or just email me on info@donnagoodacre-writer.nz

You can see I bought a rather large banner so people can notice me amongst all of the sexy young Romance and Fantasy writers at the fair.

I had a go at producing a design for the hardcover edition, (see left), as I didn't want to hassle the ladies at DIY Publishing, who did the whole thing for me even though they had wrapped this part of their business up. I think it looks ok (Amazon accepted it eventually), but I know the font isn't the best on the back. In the long run, hardly anyone apart from me buys the hardback version, because the cost is prohibitive. It has to come from the States rather than Oz. I use it as a reference.

I have a few Zoom interviews and the odd magazine article coming up next month, and in May I'm going bush on a week-long writers' escape in the Northern Coromandel. It's not really that far from me in Tauranga, (maybe 2-3 hours), but I've never been to Tuateawa. It's on a gravel road and the cabins are described as 'rustic', so you probably get the picture. One thing I should get though is peace and quiet to really get stuck into 'Unbroken Spirits' - haha, the book, not me. In between I shall meet other writers and explore the region by car, bike and foot.

My friend in England, photographer Indira Flack, who I met at a Brian Adams photography exhibition in London when we both had a glass or three of bubbles, posted this reminder on Instagram recently. On the night we met we discovered that we had both launched a book that day. Hers is an amazing coffee table book about British Racing Car Drivers. Excellent photos. We shall catch up again in June.

Another exciting place where 'Miriama' is on display is at our local Opportunity Shop. I was quite chuffed when they said they wanted it to raffle. The shop is run by, and raises money for, people with disabilities. I'll drop a copy of 'Greenstone' in there next week.

I should have mentioned that a portion of the profits from Indira's book goes to Dementia Research. So another worthy cause.

Finally, what am I reading at the moment?

I've continued to follow Alice Feeney, and am now nearly finished 'Daisy Downer'. It's another thriller with a twist at the end. I always wish I could write like her when I read her books, but each to their own I guess.

On Sunday I get to see my daughter and grandson when they visit from Brisbane for a week, and shortly after that my husband is coming for two weeks. So that will be a welcome distraction. Spiderman, Paw Patrol and Sonic the Hedgehog will be the order of the day (not sure what grandson will watch 😁)
